Dragons are real.

The shock washes over you, slowly. You slowly come back to yourself and notice, as if for the first time, the person in front of you, sitting atop a majestic dragon. You know all about the dragon, naturally. Tale of Dragons has taught you a lot. Of course, until a few seconds ago, you had thought it was all fantasy…
You blink in the sunlight. Not long ago at all, you had been inside, on the computer, hatching your newest rare. So many incredible dragons… could they ALL be as real as the one standing in front of you?
“You can only have one,” says the figure on the dragon’s back. One dragon. That’s all? Online, you have tons. Then again, that’s a game. You’re shaken from your thoughts as the figure speaks again. “Now, come. Hurry! Usually, Mistland is only open to admins, but this is an emergency. We need everyone we can get who knows something about real dragons.”
“Wait,” you say. “I’m going where?” Your mind flashes to all the things you have to do today – (sports practice, work, school, whatever) – but this has got to be important. You don’t know the stranger on the dragon, but come on! Real dragons! Not hesitating any longer, you scramble on board the dragon’s back. No sooner do you have a grip than the rider calls out to their steed and the dragon’s wings lift. It shoots up into the sky as fast as a bullet – and then the world around you disappears.
“First, we need to get you a dragon. I needed to catch mine myself, but since we’ve had such a growth recently, you’ll just get yours from the hatchery that Silver and I built.”
Silver? Meaning… SILVER Silver? The founder of the site? … Oh.
“Wait. Who are YOU then?”
The rider doesn’t answer. It’s so dark, they may not even be there anymore. Suddenly, however, the dragon’s wings stop beating and you’re sitting in broad daylight, in front of the strangest building you’ve ever seen.
“Welcome to the hatchery on Mistland,” says the dragon rider with a slight smile. “Go right on in.” The rider then promptly flies away on their dragon into the sky until you can't see them any more.

Xulca chittered, tired of Shace's moping. She slipped out of her rider's arms and scampered off to Riv's side, sniffing around her feet.

Riv looked down, surprised, as Xulca suddenly appeared at her feet. She hadn't noticed where she came from, but Shace must've been nearby. Poor girl, she probably freaked out when those two other creatures dropped on them and hid herself. But why wasn't she coming out? Riv gently patted Xulca on the head, trying to convey the hatchling her message to send to Shace - that it was okay to come out if she had indeed been hiding. No one would be mad at her or anything - being afraid was not a weakness, it rather showed that the person was careful enough to be afraid of something and wouldn't do reckless things without thinking. Riv hoped Shace would somehow get her message. And if she hadn't been hiding, but rather doing something else, then that was that.

Xulca blinked up at Riv, with a soft chirp/growl noise, and started walking slowly (at least for her) back to where Shace was hiding, trying to lead Riv to her rider.

Shace, meanwhile, had started recovering, wiping her face and calming herself down. She stepped out to greet Xulca, reaching out for the mature hatchling who climbed up on her shoulders, though the Quicksilver didn't fit quite as comfortably as she used to.

"Xulca, I think you might be getting too big for that." Xulca let out a disappointed sound, but stayed on her precarious perch.

(NPC bit! :D)

Melody took a deep breath. The pain was still great, but it had normalized itself into duller waves. She gritted her teeth and looked up.
It seemed that most of her captors had gone off to do other things. There was only one still sitting near her with one of those dragons, a girl with brown hair and a hat. A few of them seemed to be packing up. Well, were they just going to leave her here? She would starve!, she thought with alarm. As it was she hadn't had anything to eat all day. Or she might die of thirst first. She felt another wave of pain, this time coupled with nausea. She squeezed her eyes shut and waited for the pain to pass. Well, she might die of THAT too, of course. She was in sorry shape, she thought to herself and almost laughed, just out of the ridiculousness of her situation. She had to figure out a way to get out of here. She wasn't sure where she would go (she would probably try to avoid the other tamers, and these riders, but where would she be accepted? Most everyone hated her kind, and with good reason), but any place would be better if she were free and could take care of her bondeds. She could acutely feel their frustration at being tied up. She tried to quiet them with a thought, but it was difficult to focus in her pain. Eventually she gave up and leaned back against the wall again.

Reginald continued to prepare food for the riders, though a little bit absentmindedly. he was still pondering about the Skull Phoenix. It was one of the most incredible and powerful creatures he had seen - or at least it would be, full grown - and it unfortunately seemed to think he was useless and weak. Well, it was a fair cop, he thought to himself. His decades of study and research had instilled in him about as much fighting spirit as a newborn rabbit. Still, that didn't mean he was useless. He had climbed the Archil Mountains with the Programmer and journeyed through the freezing winds of the north with the Wolf Warrior. He could start a fire in a rainstorm and usually handle smaller, non-lethal creatures pretty well. In addition, there was his ever-handy book of spells and languages. A dragon's world was a combative world, and there he was basically ineffectual. However, he may sometime have a chance to prove his worth. Especially because he knew what was going on, while most of the riders probably didn't. Thus he was thinking as he cooked the meals, which is why he didn't notice when the eggs started burning. Five minutes later, he yelped and turned the oven off as the now-black eggs sizzled on the stove. He sighed and started over.

(Also, Invi, Terridor should be to about hatchie stage 2 now. Just an estimate. Vuelie should be gendered by my next post! :D)

Riku had gone outside, little grey following, he sighed and thought about Riv, he then tried to clear his head, feeling his cheeks where turning red, he grumbled softly and closed his eyes and spoke out loud to himself "I am an idiot male..........grey, do what do you think" it nodded and then sent a few images picturing him as being clumsy and unable to not get hurt during a fight. Riku growled slightly but knew it was true. little grey tilted its head. "I may be an idiot but im not clumsy, and I know I keep getting hurt, so just stop rubbing it in grey.........." he looked down, thinking about Riv again

((AAAWWWWW YEAHHHH! NEXT STOP: THE SKY! WOO!))

invi stood at the far end of some hallway, looking out a window. she sighed t the slowly setting sun, the sky illuminated with brilliant shades of orange, red, pink and purple. The setting sun it's self was a slightly darker shade of orange. She could see some of the stars. "You know, one day you'll be able to fly up there..." She sighed one more in wonder. "All you need are your wings" she turned and looked at him only to see him unfold a pair of black wings, tipped with ivory and gold. Invi's eyes widened. "When the heck did that happen?!" He smiled. "about half way through the fight, give it a few hours and they may actually be able to support flight" invi turned away. "Huh..."

((Oh thank god I haven't missed much. Looks like everyone was busy XD Alright, I'll see what I can do about Melody (pretty name, btw :P) :D))

Riv smiled as she saw Shace appear from between some displays. Xulca positioned herself precariously onto the girl's shoulders. Riv could see Shace had been crying, but she decided not to mention it. Better to make a face like she hadn't noticed anyway as the other girl obviously didn't want anyone to know she'd been crying. So she just kept smiling.

Skully appeared at her feet just then. Silent as a cat he'd crept up on her, keeping his thoughts quiet. Riv laughed out loud as he jumped up into her arms, almost making her fall on her bottom. He licked her face, making her complain loudly but happily as she shifted her backpack onto the left shoulder to make room for Skully on the right one. That wasn't easy, though. He kept slipping down, and finally they settled with Riv putting on her backpack and Skully sitting on top. It made it a few kilos heavier and she grunted under the weight. She'd have to do some serious training here.

Suddenly she started hiccuping. Ugh, how she hated when that happened. She tried holding her breath, but another hiccup cancelled that. She then tried another way - think about who could be thinking about her. That usually helped, since she had always believed hiccups to be connected to when someone else was thinking about her. She closed her eyes. Was it her mom? Wondering why she hadn't called her yet? Or her boyfriend, worried about where she was? She wanted to hit herself right then for not even sparing them a thought the moment she'd gotten here. Of course, there had been so much going on, but that wasn't an excuse. Another hiccup racked her body. So it wasn't them. She went through all her friends and family, but the hiccups wouldn't stop.

After a while she figured it would be someone in Mistland. She could still see Avalon, Doves and Shace in the room, so it wasn't any of them. Reginald was in the kitchen, as she could see from Skully's mind, but it wasn't him either. Invi? She'd exited the room earlier, but why on earth would she be thinking of her? Nope, it wasn't her either. Lucky had been MIA for way too long, no idea where she was. It wasn't her. Who then?

And then it hit her. Riku wasn't anywhere around. Could it be him? But why would he be thinking of her? The hiccups had stopped. So it was him. Huh... Riv wasn't sure what to think about that. Well, at least the nasty hiccups had stopped, leaving her chest slightly aching. Stupid stuff.

But there were more important things to do right now. No one except for Doves was paying attention to the Melody-girl. She walked over to the girl, careful to keep her distance from the struggling insectoids. When she reached Melody she put her backpack down. Skully jumped off it and sniffed curiously the girl's feet and crystals. Don't touch those! Riv thought immediately. Don't worry, wasn't going to, came back the answer. She let it go and kneeled in front of the girl.

"Melody, can you hear me?" she asked furtively, careful to keep her distance, but still look as good-wishing as possible. The girl was obviously still in pain, so she figured torturing her more wouldn't really make a difference. Maybe some good-heartedness would go further.

The strikingly yellow eyes opened with a flutter. Deep breaths hurt, so she kept taking small, shallow ones. Someone had called her name, and a moment later she saw the person who'd said it in front of her. There was a dragon hatchling sniffing around her feet, and through pure instinct she tried to pull them away. It hurt too much, though. A small whimper escaped her lips and her insides tried to cringe away from the creature. She'd been taught all her life that dragons were evil and malicious creatures, only thinking about prey and hunting innocent creatures. So it was obvious she would try and keep her distance from them. It was agony watching the little... thing be so close to her.

There was nothing Melody could do about it, though, not in her situation, so she took another shuddering breath and looked at the girl who had addressed her in the first place. The dark hair with red highlights fell around an honest-looking face. Kneeling in front of her she looked just like any other tamer. Except for the fact that she wasn't one. She wasn't even a bystander, no. She was a rider. She was one of them. Nothing she could say or do would change Melody's mind.

"Are you in a lot of pain? I... I know that we must be the ones who hurt you. Are you bonded to those creatures somehow? I'm really sorry for everything that we've done, but to be fair - you attacked us first. We were only defending ourselves," the other girl finished, looking concerned. Melody didn't know what to say to that. Riders weren't supposed to talk like that. They were supposed to be fierce, and angry, and torture-happy. Was this some kind of a new torture method they had developped, being nice until they got what they wanted? If so, then she wasn't going to give in. Another wave of pain coursed through her body and she moaned.

Riv wasn't sure what else to say or do. She was afraid to go closer to the girl, but she wanted to bad to help her, seeing her cringe and hearing her pain-filled moans. "Hey... I'm not sure why you attacked us, but we don't wish you any harm. I promise that. If anyone tries to hurt you more, I'll make sure they answer to me. So please, just tell me what I can do to ease your pain right now." She was practically pleading.

Melody looked up at her. There was confusion in her eyes. Riv wasn't sure what was going through the girl's mind, but she waited quietly. She even called Skully away. She'd seen the earlier flicker of pure fear in her eyes as she'd noticed the hatchling at her feet and even though it made her wonder, she didn't question it. For now.

Finally, after long moments of silence, Melody opened her mouth. "Why are you so nice to me? Riders are never nice, ever. They come flying on their dragons," she spit out the word like an insult, "and burn everything down. You are supposed to yell at me, you are supposed to torture me. Why are you sitting there, wanting to help me?" she finished weakly.

Riv was speechless. She was supposed to be evil? In what world was she evil? She could be nasty enough to people who pissed her off, and protect her loved ones ferociously, but never did she consider herself evil. She would never stoop so low as to torture another human being and enjoy it. Why was Melody so hell-bent on thinking only the worst of her when she didn't even know her?

Then a thought popped into Riv's mind. Of course. She was a part of a group called Tamers, if she'd heard it right before. What if... what if that was a sort of a rivalling group of humans here in Mistland, just like Riv and the others were part of the Riders-group? Could it be that she'd been raised to believe the Riders were as mean as she'd just said? And attacked them for that same reason? She'd mentioned the other Tamers making her do it, and she'd been pleading earlier. With her youth it was an obvious deduction that she'd been pushed to attack them, probably by other Tamers who knew she wouldn't succeed, not alone against their group. Riv's eyes widened as she put the pieces together.

((Okay, enough for now, bedtime for me. I would very much like to continue talking to Melody alone for a few more moments, to see what comes out of my approach. But you can always come and help me out as well XD))

Shace smiled back at Riv and giggled to herself a little as the other girl was suddenly wracked with hiccups.

Shace didn't really know what do at this point, but the smell of something burning reached her nose.

With that she set off to investigate the burning smell.
